I assemble a catalog of 555 coffin elements, including 118 cosmological vignettes from the 21st/22nd Dynasties, and report several observations. First, the cosmological vignette on the outer coffin of Nesitaudjatakhet bears a unique feature: a thick, undulating black curve that bisects Nut's star-studded body and recalls the Great Rift that cleaves the Milky Way in two. Similar undulating curves bisect the astronomical ceiling in the tomb of Seti I and appear as part of depictions of Nut in the tombs of Ramesses IV, VI, and IX. Moreover, the undulating curve resembles similar features identified as the Milky Way on the bodies of Navajo, Hopi, and Zuni spiritual beings. Hence, I argue that the undulating curve is a visual representation of the Milky Way and that it supports a previously suggested identification of the Winding Waterway as the Galaxy's Egyptian name. However, the rarity of this feature strengthens the conclusion reached by Graur (2024a): Though Nut and the Milky Way are linked, they are not synonymous. Instead of acting as a representation of Nut, the Milky Way is one more celestial phenomenon that, like the Sun and the stars, is associated with Nut in her role as the sky. Second, Nut's body is decorated with stars in only a quarter of the cosmological vignettes, suggesting that the Egyptians of the 21st/22nd Dynasties may have had a marked preference for the day sky over the night sky. Finally, I discuss the interplay between Nut's cosmological vignette and full-length portraits inside coffins from the New Kingdom to the Roman Period in the context of Nut's combined cosmological and eschatological roles as an embodiment of the coffin. 2024-09-16T13:15:15Z 28 pages, 10 figures, 3 tables. A large number of hypotheses about its causes have been put forward already. However, so far none of them has received convincing evidence. This is probably why new hypotheses appear almost every year, not only in the mass-media, but also in scientific literature. At the same time, any hypothesis should not contradict the known facts about the event. Unfortunately, the authors of new hypotheses, as well as the authors of popular science articles, often use data, many of which turned out to be not entirely accurate, or even incorrect. In this paper some of this data will be considered. Also the history of the Tunguska research is considered in this paper. Some other aspects of the 1908 Tunguska event are considered too. 2025-04-25T10:45:21Z 17 pages, 7 figures Andrei Ol'khovatov http://arxiv.org/abs/2505.05482v1 Applied Astrobiology: An Integrated Approach to the Future of Life in Space 2025-04-24T12:54:11Z Searching for extraterrestrial life and supporting human life in space are traditionally regarded as separate challenges. Phosphine is an important biomarker; e.g., the trace of phosphine in the Earth's atmosphere is unequivocally associated with anthropogenic activity and microbial life (which produces this highly reducing gas even in an overall oxidizing environment). Motivated by the JCMT and ALMA tantalizing observations we reexamine whether Venus could accommodate Earthly life. More concretely, we hypothesize that the microorganisms populating the venusian atmosphere are not free floating but confined to the liquid environment inside cloud aerosols or droplets. Armed with this hypothesis, we generalize a study of airborne germ transmission to constrain the maximum size of droplets that could be floating in the venusian atmosphere by demanding that their Stokes fallout times to reach moderately high temperatures are pronouncedly larger than the microbe's replication time. We also comment on the effect of cosmic ray showers on the evolution of aerial microbial life. 2024-04-08T09:47:29Z Matching version accepted for publication in Galaxies Galaxies 13, no. 3 (2025) 48 Jennifer J. Quantum Intuition XR is an interactive, extended reality (XR) experience designed to make quantum concepts tangible. Our system visualizes core principles of quantum computing, including qubits, superposition, entanglement, and measurement, through immersive interaction. Using a Mixed Reality headset, participants engage with floating qubits, manipulate their states via controllers, and observe entanglement dynamics through real-time audiovisual feedback. A key feature of our implementation is the mathematically accurate and dynamic representation of qubits, both individually and while interacting with each other. The visualization of the qubit states evolve -- rotate, shrink, grow, entangle -- depending on their actual quantum states, which depend on variables such as proximity to other qubits and user interaction. Preliminary expert interviews and demonstrations with quantum specialists indicate that the system accurately represents quantum phenomena, suggesting strong potential to educate and enhance quantum intuition for non-expert audiences. This approach bridges abstract quantum mechanics with embodied learning, offering an intuitive and accessible way for users to explore quantum phenomena. Future work will focus on expanding multi-user interactions and refining the fidelity of quantum state visualizations. 2025-04-11T21:26:49Z Jamie Ngoc Dinh Marven Wong Matthew Brooks Charles Tahan Myungin Lee http://arxiv.org/abs/2504.08461v1 Astrophysical constraints on the simulation hypothesis for this Universe: why it is (nearly) impossible that we live in a simulation 2025-04-11T11:47:45Z We assess how physically realistic the ''simulation hypothesis'' for this Universe is, based on physical constraints arising from the link between information and energy, and on known astrophysical constraints. We investigate three cases: the simulation of the entire visible Universe, the simulation of Earth only, or a low resolution simulation of Earth, compatible with high-energy neutrino observations. In all cases, the amounts of energy or power required by any version of the simulation hypothesis are entirely incompatible with physics, or (literally) astronomically large, even in the lowest resolution case. Only universes with very different physical properties can produce some version of this Universe as a simulation. On the other hand, our results show that it is just impossible that this Universe is simulated by a universe sharing the same properties, regardless of technological advancements of the far future. 2025-04-11T11:47:45Z 17 pages, 4 figures. This article explores the physics of music with an emphasis on the role of distortion in the amplification. In particular, we derive and illustrate how a distorted amplifier creates new musical notes that are not played by the musician, greatly simplifying the playing technique. In providing a comprehensive understanding, we commence with a discussion of the physics of music, highlighting the harmonic series and its relation to pleasing harmonies. This is placed in the context of the standard music notation of intervals and their relation to note frequency ratios. We then discuss the problems of tuning an instrument and why the equal temperament of standard guitar tuners is incompatible with good sounding music when amplifier distortion is involved. Drawing on the basic trigonometric identities for angle sums and differences, we show how the nonlinear amplification of a distorted amplifier, generates new notes not played by the musician. Here the importance of setting your guitar tuner aside and using your ear to tune is emphasised. We close with a discussion of how humans decipher musical notes and why some highly distorted guitar chords give the impression of low notes that are not actually there. This article will be of assistance to students interested in the physics of music and lecturers seeking fascinating and relevant applications of mathematical trigonometric relations and physics to capture the attention of their students. 2025-04-07T11:01:46Z 37 pages, 16 figures, linked webpage for audio Anna Mullin University of Adelaide Derek Leinweber University of Adelaide http://arxiv.org/abs/2503.24030v2 Jacquetium: a new, naturally-occurring chemical element 2025-04-03T15:03:21Z I report the discovery of jacquetium ($_0$Jq), the first naturally occurring element found since more than 80 years. Here we continue discussing their burial places, that is their pyramids, in a new framework based on the study of orientation of pyramid substructures (entrances, corridors, burial chambers). Shepseskaf and Userkaf opted for the same architectonic solutions, exhibiting a continuity in funerary architecture. After showing the substructure orientations of the pyramids of the IV and V Dynasties, we will stress that the substructure in the Shepseskaf's pyramid, the Mastabat Fara'un, is oriented as in the Fourth Dynasty architecture of pyramids and that it has a layout which is closer to that used by the following Fifth Dynasty. In our discussion, we will start with the first ruler of the Fourth Dynasty, Snefru, who introduced a new form of external and internal layout of the burial complexes of the king, through an evolution based on four attempts, the Seila, Meidum, Bent and Red pyramids. In the final model, the Snefru's Red pyramid, the substructure has a north entrance and a burial chamber east-west oriented. This orientation persisted in the pyramids of the Fourth and Fifth Dynasties, and beyond. The Sekhemkhet (Djoserty) pyramid of the Third Dynasty is also illustrated for comparison, such as some earlier burial monuments. In the discussion here proposed the position of sarcophagus and of the body inside it is also investigated. The sarcophagus has its axis north-south. The body of the deceased king was lying on its left side, extended, head to the north, face towards the east. In this framework, we propose again what we told in arXiv 2016, arxiv:1604.05963, and the layout of pyramids with respect to sunrise on solstices. 2025-02-12T14:12:15Z I have added some references and discussions about the name of Shepseskaf pyramid. Yet observations have found a disproportionately large amount of matter, a phenomenon known as the baryon assymmetry problem. Since century-old established theories are traditionally impossible to refute, the only possible explanation is that the remaining antimatter is hidden in plain sight and remains to be observed. We propose the existence of anti-stars to solve the baryon assymetry in our new Reasonable Antimatter Theory of Stars (RATS). In this context, the RATS will create a framework to resolve the traditional tension between observers and theorists, and thus contribute to the peaceful and collaborative spirit of astronomy. Some have described it as yeeting their back-breaking products of labor into the void, wishing they could never deal with them ever again. The very act of yeeting papers onto arXiv contributes to the expansion of the arXiverse; however, we have yet to quantify our contribution to the cause. In this work, I investigate the expansion of the arXiverse using the arXiv astro-ph submission data from 1992 to date. I coin the term "the arXiverse constant", $a_0$, to quantify the rate of expansion of the arXiverse. I find that astro-ph as a whole has a positive $a_0$, but this does not always hold true for the six subcategories of astro-ph. I then investigate the temporal changes in $a_0$ for the astro-ph subcategories and astro-ph as a whole, from which I infer the fate of the arXiverse. 2025-03-31T11:15:30Z 9 pages, 6 figures, 3 memes. As a result, these phenomena are increasingly attracting the attention of scientists around the world, some of whom have recently formed research efforts to monitor and scientifically study UAP. In this paper, we review and summarize approximately 20 historical government studies dating from 1933 to the present (in Scandinavia, WWII, US, Canada, France, Russia, China), several historical private research studies (France, UK, US), and both recent and current scientific research efforts (Ireland, Germany, Norway, Sweden, US). In doing so, our objective is to clarify the existing global and historical scientific narrative around UAP. Studies range from field station development and deployment to the collection and analysis of witness reports from around the world. We dispel the common misconception that UAPs are an American phenomenon and show that UAP can be, and have been, scientifically investigated. Our aim here is to enable future studies to draw on the great depth of prior documented experience. 2025-01-27T10:05:19Z 194 pages, 15 figures Kevin H.
