Here we formulate a density-matrix theory for periodic round lattices and show that the symmetry-protected quantity is a Lewis-Floquet OAM invariant, rather than the instantaneous kinetic OAM. The classical transfer map lifts to unitary state evolution, while stochastic field errors generate a Lindblad channel. This framework exposes a sharp separation between visibility and state survival. Dipole jitter displaces the wavepacket, rapidly smearing a vortex signature measured about a fixed origin without altering its recentered internal OAM distribution. Quadrupole fluctuations instead drive genuine $Δ\ell=\pm2$ leakage. For a matched $n=0$, $|\ell|=1$ mode, white-noise estimates based on representative IOTA and PETRA III parameters give fixed-frame smearing scales of $4.9\times10^2$ and $3.3$ turns, but intrinsic-leakage scales of $2.1\times10^5$ and $2.2\times10^6$ turns, respectively. Thus loss of an unrecentered vortex image need not signal destruction of the vortex state: its internal OAM structure can persist hundreds to hundreds of thousands of times longer. Centroid tracking and quadrupole stability are therefore distinct experimental requirements for observability and state survival, respectively. 2026-08-12T11:21:28Z 13 pages S. S. Baturin http://arxiv.org/abs/2609.08758v1 Backward Compton scattering with three vortex particles 2026-09-08T13:54:23Z We investigate backward Compton scattering in which an incident vortex (vx) photon collides head-on with a plane-wave (pw) electron and both final-state particles are projected onto vortex states, $γ_{\rm vx}+e^-_{\rm pw}\toγ_{\rm vx}+e^-_{\rm vx}$. We derive analytically the scattering amplitude and differential cross sections in the energy and cone angle of either final particle. Rotational symmetry implies a selection rule associated with the conservation of the total angular momentum along the collision axis. A Bessel-Gaussian wave packet is adopted for the incident photon to provide a physical normalization and regularize the boundary singularities of ideal Bessel states. We present numerical results for a $10~{\rm MeV}$ electron colliding with a vortex photon of central energy $1~{\rm MeV}$ or $10~{\rm keV}$. The final-photon distributions exhibit strong energy--angle correlations, topological-charge-dependent interference fringes, and systematic shifts of their dominant peaks, allowing different topological charge sectors to be enhanced through angular or energy post-selection. For a longitudinally polarized incident electron, the dominant channels favor final photons of matching helicity. For the $1~{\rm MeV}$ photon benchmark, the final electron can likewise be produced as a MeV-scale vortex state with a sizable cone angle and a large angular-momentum projection. These results demonstrate that triple-vortex backward Compton scattering offers a potential means of generating and controlling high-energy vortex photons and electrons. 2026-09-08T13:54:23Z 13 pages, 8 figures Yi Liao Zhaolong Teng Hao-Lin Wang http://arxiv.org/abs/2609.08748v1 Dynamic Chirality in Photonic Time Crystals 2026-09-08T13:42:43Z Temporal modulation offers a fundamentally distinct degree of freedom for active wave control beyond static spatial structuring. Photonic time crystals (PTCs), based on periodic modulation of electromagnetic parameters in time, have expanded photonic band engineering from space to time by enabling controlled energy exchange between light and the modulation. Yet, the use of PTCs to synthesize rotational dynamics and thereby control chirality and circular dichroism (CD) remains largely unexplored. Here, we propose a spatiotemporal PTC whose central cylindrical element is driven by an azimuthally traveling-wave permittivity modulation. Although the structure is geometrically static, its dielectric profile evolves as an effectively rotating pattern in time. This synthetic rotation lifts a static modal degeneracy and produces two nondegenerate counter-rotating states with opposite orbital angular momenta. These chiral modes selectively couple to left- and right-circularly polarized light, giving rise to tunable CD. In addition, the spatiotemporal modulation induces orbital angular-momentum conversion between the Floquet replica bands. Our work reveals the microscopic origin of dynamic chiral response and establishes a strategy for reconfigurable chiral photonics without mechanical motion. 2026-09-08T13:42:43Z 6 pages, 4 figures Jianming Mai Chenwen Yang Shubo Wang http://arxiv.org/abs/2605.22318v3 Shielded inner-shell transitions in atomic samarium for tests of fundamental physics 2026-09-08T13:17:04Z Forbidden atomic transitions provide some of the most stringent low-energy tests of physics beyond the Standard Model, with sensitivity set by the interplay between the sought-for signals and systematics suppressed by symmetry. Here we identify the previously unobserved $4f^{6}6s^{2}\,{}^{5}$D$_{0}$ level of neutral samarium at $14\,564.90(2)\,\mathrm{cm}^{-1}$, opening the ${}^{7}$F$_{0}\rightarrow{}^{5}$D$_{0}$ inner-shell transition for precision spectroscopy. Candidate lines extracted from dual-comb absorption spectra were assigned using double-resonance population-depletion and sequential-excitation measurements. The observed pressure broadening, $0.12(2)\,\mathrm{MHz/torr}$, and pressure shift, $-0.145(4)\,\mathrm{MHz/torr}$, indicate an inner-shell $4f$-transition shielded from external perturbations. Many-body calculations predict a metastable lifetime in the range $120$-$200\,\mathrm{ms}$, corresponding to a quality factor of order $\mathcal{Q}\sim10^{14}$, large sensitivity coefficients for variation of the fine-structure constant, and a nuclear-spin-dependent parity-violation amplitude comparable to that of cesium. Crucially, the $J=0\rightarrow J=0$ selection rule suppresses by symmetry both the nuclear-spin-independent parity-violation channel and the M1 and E2 backgrounds that complicated previous heavy-atom experiments, yielding a uniquely clean window onto the nuclear anapole moment. The two stable spin-$7/2$ isotopes of samarium provide a remarkable opportunity to largely cancel atomic-structure uncertainties by measuring the ratio of parity-violation effects in the two isotopes. These results establish neutral samarium as a platform for inner-shell precision spectroscopy and tests of physics beyond the Standard Model. 2026-05-21T11:04:44Z R. Aramyan D. Budker V. A. Dzuba V. Here, we develop a geometric characterization of the non-Hermitian skin effect. We demonstrate that the localization length scale associated with the skin effect is encoded in the quantum metric defined solely from right eigenstates, but not in the biorthogonal quantum metric. Moreover, we show that the quantum metrics can exhibit the power-law divergences at gapless points that depend on the different boundary conditions. We also reveal that cusps of the generalized Brillouin zone in non-Bloch band theory are signaled by discontinuities in the quantum metrics. We illustrate these behavior using prototypical non-Hermitian models, such as the Hatano-Nelson model and the non-Hermitian, nonreciprocal Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model. 2026-04-11T05:51:53Z 19 pages, 10 figures Phys. The pumping is induced by two mutually sliding two-dimensional lattices defined by shallow transverse and longitudinal periodic refractive index modulation. Focusing on solitons in the semi-infinite gap, we find three distinct pumping scenarios: the absence of transport for small-amplitude solitons, non-quantized transport in a transient regime at intermediate amplitudes, and stable quantized transport for solitons with relatively large amplitudes. Different directions of the sliding velocity were investigated resulting in different trajectories of soliton center. The transition to the regime of quantized transport is found to depend strongly on phase mismatch between FF and SH waves that also influences stability properties of two-dimensional $χ^{(2)}$ lattice solitons. We also show that pumping with longitudinal periods in the x and y directions, whose ratio approximates an irrational number, induces quantized transport whose direction rapidly converges, with increase of the accuracy of the approximation, to a limiting pumping direction determined by this irrational number and corresponding to truly incommensurate longitudinal periods. 2026-09-08T12:57:23Z 29 pages, 6 figures Communications Physics 9, 47 (2026) Fangwei Ye Yaroslav V. Here, leveraging numerical simulations validated by experimental data, we present a framework to identify the parameters that limit VIPA spectrometer resolution. This framework is applied to the construction of a new mid-infrared VIPA spectrometer, tested at wavelengths near $λ$ = 4.6 $μ$m with both continuous-wave and frequency-comb laser sources, with a resolving power predicted by analytical expressions to be as high as $RP$ = 830 000 (corresponding to a resolution of $δν$ = 78 MHz). Validated numerical simulations, however, provided a more realistic estimate that captures limits set by all the optical components. By minimizing aberrations and optimizing alignment, a resolving power of $RP$ = 440 000 ($δν$ = 150 MHz) was experimentally achieved, corresponding to 80 % of the value predicted by numerical simulation of the entire spectrometer. The results bridge the gap between analytical expressions and experimental results for compact, high-resolution VIPA spectrometers to enable more efficient fabrication and advanced design across critical areas like space optics, line-by-line pulse shaping, and broadband spectral sensors. 2026-01-13T14:16:04Z Kiumars Aryana D. Our chiral optical force applies off resonance to essentially all chiral molecules, including isotopically chiral species which are notoriously difficult to resolve using existing methods. We conclude by proposing a realistic experiment supported by numerical simulations. Here we add axial diffraction management as an additional design freedom to the transverse_field programmability of holography, enabling the transverse optical function and its diffraction-driven axial evolution to be co_designed. By incorporating established propagation_invariant dynamics into computer_generated hologram and meta_hologram synthesis, we realize task_selectable axial responses in user_defined monochromatic, full-colour and vectorial fields. On a spatial light modulator, the same scalar user_defined field is configured either for a rapidly evolving 1.2_cm depth of field or for an approximately 75_cm propagation_invariant range. Millimetre_scale metasurfaces further enable metre_scale refocusing_free full_colour projection and vectorial colour fields with polarization textures preserved over more than 30 cm. This transverse_axial co_design framework extends holographic field synthesis beyond transverse programmability, providing a broadly compatible route towards task_configurable optical systems and compact multidimensional photonics. 2026-09-08T10:47:12Z Wenxiang Yan Tianyue Li Zhuolin Wu Yiyu Zhao Zhi-Cheng Ren Xi-Lin Wang Hui-Tian Wang Shuming Wang Jianping Ding http://arxiv.org/abs/2609.08552v1 Universal Broadband Linear Optical Transformations by an Interlaced Structured Integrated Photonic Processor 2026-09-08T10:35:49Z Reconfigurable photonic integrated circuits enable applications in a wide range of fields. Upon harmonic generation, the radiation intensity drops and the phase noise grows. In this work, both factors are analyzed for two types of primary sources: a continuous-wave single-frequency laser and a femtosecond optical frequency comb. It is shown that in the weak-conversion regime for equal average input powers, the power of the central mode in the spectrum of the Kth harmonic of femtosecond radiation matches the harmonic power of continuous-wave radiation for K=2 and noticeably exceeds it for K>2. Within the first-order dispersion approximation, group-velocity mismatch reduces the total conversion efficiency without affecting the power of the exactly phase-matched central mode. The transformation of the phase noise of an ultrastable laser upon harmonic generation leads to two effects that depend on K: the harmonic linewidth grows linearly, whereas the power fraction in the carrier decreases as a Gaussian function and is determined by the high-frequency noise of the stabilization loop (the servo bumps). Measurements of the phase-noise spectra of a laser stabilized to a Fabry-Perot cavity show that for a typical rms phase excursion of ~100 mrad the carrier loses about half of its power already at the eighth harmonic, while for a non-optimal stabilization-loop gain carrier collapse occurs at the second-third harmonic. 2026-09-08T10:00:49Z 15 pages, 6 figures Nikita Zhadnov Olga Khronusova Alexey Russkikh Nikolay Kolachevsky Anatoly Masalov http://arxiv.org/abs/2609.08502v1 Computational analysis and performance optimization of SrScCu3Se4-based solar cells using COMSOL Multiphysics 2026-09-08T09:44:03Z Transition metal-based quaternary semiconductors show strong magneto-optical and thermoelectric properties, yet their photovoltaic performance in realistic three-dimensional device architectures remains underexplored. The model self-consistently couples wavelength-dependent optical generation, drift-diffusion carrier transport, and thermal loss analysis under AM1.5G, 1-sun illumination within a fully coupled opto-electro-thermal framework. The effect of absorber width, acceptor level, and bulk defects on photovoltaic performance, carrier generation, and recombination profile is investigated in this study. Quaternary chalcogenide device produces an open circuit voltage (VOC) of 1.02 V, short-circuit current density (JSC) of 32.472 mA/cm2, fill factor (FF) of 88.212%, and power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 29.217% under optimized conditions. The quantum efficiency (QE) results indicate that the device effectively transforms incident light into charge carriers within the visible spectrum, however absorption and carrier collecting performance diminish in the near-infrared range. The electrothermal simulations indicate modest, spatially non-uniform temperature increases relevant to Joule heating and nonradiative recombination heating within the active layers. Overall, these findings ensure that SrScCu3Se4, a quaternary chalcogenide, is a promising absorber material and offers a strong experimental design consideration for obtaining high-performance, thermally stable three-dimensional photovoltaic device topologies. 2026-09-08T09:44:03Z 29 pages, 11 figures, 1 table Khalid Mahmud Md. Here we introduce a flat-band mechanism based on strong diffractive hybridization among moiré-folded bands. Period-mismatched modulations open distinct coupling channels whose hybridization renormalizes the band dispersion. An effective Hamiltonian shows that increasing the diffractive coupling progressively suppresses the group velocity, driving the system toward a flat-band regime without field-specific magic configurations. This coupling-induced mechanism enables band flattening across distinct physical excitations. We demonstrate this mechanism in a single-layer moiré optomechanical crystal, where photonic and phononic flat bands are simultaneously realized, and their localized modes and optomechanical interaction are experimentally observed. Beyond photonic and phononic systems, this mechanism may extend to other wave and quasiparticle platforms, providing a general route to co-localizing and coupling distinct physical fields in moiré systems. 2026-09-08T08:55:06Z Ziming Chen Kaiyu Cui Ning Wu Shuyuan Li Chenxuan Wang Xue Feng Fang Liu Wei Zhang Hao Sun Yongzhuo Li Yidong Huang http://arxiv.org/abs/2609.08416v1 Fiber-based electro-optic dual-comb light source for fast linear and nonlinear spectroscopy 2026-09-08T08:24:15Z Dual-comb spectroscopy (DCS) enables rapid, broadband and high-resolution optical measurements by mapping optical spectra into the radio frequency (RF) domain.
