They can be interpreted as bi-differential operators remarkable for reflecting the structure of fusion rules for holomorphic discrete series representations of the Lie group $SL(2,\mathbb R)$ and are intimately connected to classical special polynomials. In this introductory article, we explore the combinatorial structure of these operators and discuss a general framework for constructing their higher-dimensional analogues from the representation-theoretic perspective on branching problems. The exposition is based on lectures delivered by the authors during the thematic semester ``Representation Theory and Noncommutative Geometry", held in Spring 2025 at the Henri Poincaré Institute in Paris. 2026-01-22T08:21:35Z To appear in the Progress in Mathematics series published by Springer Birkhäuser Toshiyuki Kobayashi Michael Pevzner http://arxiv.org/abs/2406.19883v2 Pseudoskew category algebras and modules over representations of small categories 2026-05-19T03:30:56Z Let $\mathcal {C}$ be a small category and let $R$ be a representation of the category $\mathcal {C}$, that is, a pseudofunctor from a small category to the category of small preadditive categories. In this paper, we mainly study the category $\mbox{Mod-} R$ of right modules over $R$. We characterize it both as a category of the Abelian group valued functors on $Gr(R)$ and as a category of modules over a new family of algebras: the pseudoskew category algebras $R[{\mathcal C}]$, where $Gr(R)$ is the linear Grothendieck construction of $R$. Moreover, we also classify the hereditary torsion pairs in $\mbox{Mod-} R$ and reprove Theorem 3.18 of the paper (S. Estrada and S. Virili. Cartesian modules over representations of small categories. In many cases, the invariants studied for these non-totally ordered posets $P$ can be obtained from restricting a given module to a subposet $X$ of $P$ that is totally ordered (or more generally, of finite representation type), and then computing the barcode (or the general direct sum decomposition) over $X$. We consider in this paper general order-preserving embeddings of representation-finite subposets $X$ into $P$ and study systematically the invariants obtained by decomposing the restriction of a given $P$-module $M$ to $X$ into its indecomposable summands. The restriction functor from $\mathrm{mod}\ P$ to $\mathrm{mod}\ X$ is well-studied, and it is known to be exact and admits both left and right adjoint functors, known as induction and co-induction functors. This allows us to obtain new homological insights, and also to re-interpret previous results. We use this approach also to determine bases of the image of these invariants, thus generalizing the concept of signed barcodes which is considered in the literature in relation to stability results. It turns out that considering only order-embeddings of one fixed poset $X$ into the poset $P$, and studying the set of all indecomposables obtained from $X$ introduces a lot of redundancy. We therefore also study iterated embeddings of several posets of increasing sizes, while limiting attention to only some indecomposables (that have not been obtained from embedding of smaller posets previously). 2024-02-14T14:10:02Z v3: exposition improved and misprints/calculations corrected. 25 pages Claire Amiot Thomas Brüstle Eric J. Hanson http://arxiv.org/abs/2511.23152v4 A Differentiable Measure of Algebraic Complexity: Provably Exact Discovery of Group Structures 2026-05-19T01:43:57Z Discovering discrete algebraic rules from data is a fundamental challenge in machine learning. We formalize this problem through Cayley-table completion -- an algebraic counterpart to classical matrix completion -- where the degree of associativity violation replaces linear rank as the intrinsic measure of complexity. We provide a rigorous landscape analysis of HyperCube, an operator-valued tensor factorization, on the fully observed target table $δ$, proving that its global infimum $H_{\inf}(δ) := \inf_{Θ\in F_δ} H(Θ)$ implicitly defines an exact differentiable measure for this complexity. We show that HyperCube's native objective $H(Θ)$ decomposes into two components: geometric alignment (collinearity) and an inverse $\ell_2$ penalty. We establish that these continuous variational pressures induce core discrete properties: collinearity enforces associativity (Collinearity--Associativity Equivalence), and the inverse $\ell_2$ penalty reduces to an exact inverse rank penalty within the collinear manifold, driving the parameters toward full-rank unitarity. Consequently, we derive an absolute lower bound $H(Θ) \ge H_{\inf}(δ) \ge 3 \, |δ|$, where $|δ|$ is the target table size. We prove this absolute floor is attained if and only if the target is isotopic to a group, and characterize the global minimizer as the regular representation of the underlying group (up to unitary gauge), resolving the central open conjecture of Huh (2025). This work serves as an existence proof that certain discrete algebraic structures can be exactly characterized by differentiable measures, enabling gradient-based discovery without the need for combinatorial search. Using Cartan's highest weight theory, we establish an explicit algebraic criterion for a homogeneous vector bundle ${\bf{E}}$ to admit a topological splitting ${\bf{E}} \cong {\bf{E}}_{0} \otimes {\bf{L}}_{0}$, where ${\bf{L}}_{0} \in {\rm{Pic}}(X)$ and $c_{1}({\bf{E}}_{0}) = 0$. When this condition is satisfied, the prescribed mean curvature equation completely decouples. By shifting the topological obstruction entirely to the line bundle ${\bf{L}}_{0}$, this splitting reduces the non-abelian prescribed mean curvature problem on ${\bf{E}}$ to Demailly's abelian theory of singular line bundle metrics. As a main application, we obtain a sufficient algebraic condition, expressed in terms of intersection numbers, under which an $L^{2}$-function can be realized as the mean curvature of a singular Hermitian structure on an irreducible homogeneous bundle. Ultimately, by overcoming the bounded curvature restrictions inherent to the classical Bando-Siu framework, this approach provides a robust mechanism to construct singular Hermitian structures accommodating prescribed singularities along analytic subvarieties. 2024-06-23T23:55:41Z 38 pages, 1 figure. Substantially revised to focus strictly on the prescribed mean curvature problem. Preliminary results on geometric flows and Z-critical metrics were removed. The current version introduces a refined algebraic criterion to decouple the equation and new results on prescribing exact singularities on analytic subvarieties. Comments welcome! Eder M. These automorphisms can be lifted to the affine Kac-Moody counterparts of these algebras and give a subalgebra of type $F_4^{(1)}\oplus G_2^{(1)}$ within a type $E_8^{(1)}$ Kac-Moody Lie algebra. We will consider the level-1 irreducible $E_8^{(1)}$-module $V^{Λ_0}$ and investigate its branching rule, that is how it decomposes as a direct sum of irreducible $F_4^{(1)}\oplus G_2^{(1)}$-modules. We calculate these branching rules using a character formula of Kac-Peterson which uses theta functions and the so-called "string functions." We will make use of Jacobi's, Ramanujan's and the Borweins' theta functions (and their respective properties and identities) in our calculation, including some identities involving the Rogers-Ramanujan series. Virasoro character theory is used to verify string functions stated by Kac and Peterson. We further introduce normalized twisted transfer factors and a normalized correspondence between an $L$-packet for a disconnected group and the set of representations of the centralizer groups of its Langlands parameter. This leads to a fiberwise criterion for stratification in the setting of rigidly-compactly generated tt-categories. As an application, we prove that the big derived category of permutation modules for a finite group over an arbitrary Noetherian base is stratified. When the base field is of prime characteristic $p$, those with vanishing $p$-curvature are called dormant $\mathfrak{g}$-opers, and they form finite and geometrically meaningful moduli spaces. In earlier work, a canonical duality was established between dormant $\mathfrak{sl}_n$-opers and dormant $\mathfrak{sl}_{p-n}$-opers. This duality has provided effective tools for the study of higher-rank cases, as well as for the computation and structural understanding of the associated enumerative invariants. The main result of this paper extends this duality phenomenon to classical Lie algebras of type B and C. More precisely, under the numerical condition $p-1 = 2 (\ell +m)$, we construct a canonical isomorphism between the moduli spaces of dormant $\mathfrak{so}_{2\ell +1}$-opers and dormant and $\mathfrak{sp}_{2m}$-opers with prescribed symmetric radii. 2026-05-18T07:36:35Z 26 pages, 2 figures Yasuhiro Wakabayashi
